Sodachi (the "Service") lets families and close friends share photos and enjoy them as photobooks. The Service is private and available only to invited family members. This policy explains what information the Service collects and how it is handled.
The Service collects the following information.
・Email address: collected so you can sign in. If you sign in with Google or LINE, we receive the email address registered with that account. If you sign in by email, we collect the address you enter.
・Display name: registered by you, so that family members can tell who is who.
・Photos and related information: the photos you upload, the comments (captions) you add to them, and the capture date (either recorded in the photo or set by you).
・Group information: the name of your family group, its members, and the contents of your photobooks.
On signed-in pages — every page where your family's photos and photobooks appear — we use no analytics tools and no advertising trackers. For advertising measurement on the pages before sign-in, see section 5.
We use the information we collect only for the following purposes.
・Providing the Service (storing and displaying photos, creating and viewing photobooks, managing family groups)
・Sending sign-in links
・Sending notification emails to family members when a new photobook is created
We do not use it for any other purpose. We never use the information above — your email address, display name, photos, or family information — for advertising, and we never sell it to third parties.
The Service runs on external services for things like storing photos and videos, the database, and sending email. These services handle information only to the extent needed to run the Service, and may not use it for any other purpose or pass it on to further third parties.
If you sign in with Google or LINE, we use those services to verify your identity.
We also use a service from Meta (Facebook and Instagram) to measure advertising, but only on the pages before sign-in. See section 5 for details.
Other than the above and where required by law, we do not provide the information we collect to any external third parties.
Photos are kept in a private storage area and are not published in a way that is accessible at all times. Displaying a photo uses a temporary, limited link issued for that moment, so third parties who don't know the link cannot reach your photos.
Photobooks offer a "share link" feature, which is disabled by default (family members only). Only if you explicitly enable sharing can someone who knows the link view that photobook. You can disable sharing again at any time.
The Service uses the cookies required to keep you signed in.
In addition, we load two things to measure our advertising:
- The Meta pixel (Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram)
- The Google tag (Google, for Google Ads)
Both are loaded on two pages before sign-in: the home page and the sign-in page. They tell us whether people who saw an ad actually reached the Service, and they set cookies belonging to those companies.
The Google tag is also loaded once more, on the single screen shown right after you finish creating a family group, to report to Google that a sign-up was completed. To judge whether our advertising is worth its cost, we need to know not only that someone arrived but that someone actually started using the Service. That screen holds no photos yet, and all that is reported is the fact that a sign-up happened.
What these send is limited to: that the page was opened, that a button was pressed, that a sign-in was attempted and by which method (email, Google, or LINE), and that a sign-up was completed. They never send your email address, display name, photos, or family information.
Apart from that one screen, we do not load either of them on any signed-in page - not on your photo lists, photobooks, or family group settings. Nothing about your family's records reaches Meta or Google.
If you would rather not be measured, you can turn this off through your browser's cookie settings, an ad blocker, or each company's own ad settings. Every feature of the Service continues to work normally either way.
Photos and data are retained until you delete them, or until you stop using the Service.
You can delete a photo or video at any time within the Service; deleting it also erases the underlying file from storage.
You can also delete your account yourself, at any time, from the settings screen — there is no need to contact us. Deleting it erases your display name and notification settings, and you will no longer be able to sign in.
What happens to your photos and videos depends on your family groups.
・A family group where you are the only member: the photos and videos are erased, including the underlying files.
・A family group with other members: the photos, videos, and photobooks you added remain as that family's record, and you simply leave the group. Remaining photos can be deleted at any time by the family's members.
One exception: if a family group has other members but you are its only editor, you cannot delete your account, because no one would be left to manage that group. Please make someone else an editor first.
The Service is intended for families storing and sharing photos of their children. Such photos are uploaded by parents themselves or by people their family has invited, and are handled only within that private group. The Service never collects information directly from children.
We may update this policy as needed. If we do, we will post the updated version on this page and revise the last updated date.
