How Sodachi works

Sodachi is a place to keep your family's photos and videos, turn the photos you pick into a photobook, and send it to family who live far away. People who view it don't need to install anything or sign up. Here's how it works, from getting started to sharing a book with family far away.

What Sodachi is

Upload your photos, then just pick the ones you want. Sodachi turns them into a photobook you can page through. Once it's ready, everyone you've invited gets a link.

You can upload videos and watch them with your family too, but a photobook holds photos only.

Three things set it apart:

・Viewers don't install an app or create an account. They just open the link. ・Only the family you invite can see it. It never appears in search engines. ・There's no limit on how many photos you add, and it's free.

1. Getting started

Choose "Start for free" on the home page and sign in with your email address, Google, or LINE.

If you use your email address, we'll send you a sign-in link. Opening that link signs you in. There's no password to choose or remember.

Once you're in, create a family group. You can rename it later.

2. Inviting your family

From the family group settings, create an invite link and send it however you normally would — LINE, email, anything.

Each person you invite gets a role:

・Editor: can add photos and videos, and create photobooks. ・Viewer: can see the photos and photobooks that arrive.

Choosing "Viewer" for grandparents keeps things simple for them.

3. Adding photos and videos

Upload from the records screen. On a computer you can drag and drop several at once. On a phone, just pick them from your camera roll.

Photos are sorted by the date they were taken, automatically. There's nothing to rearrange.

You can add a short caption to any photo. Whatever you write shows up in the photobook.

4. Making a photobook

Go to "Photobooks", start a new one, and pick the photos you want in it. Sodachi assembles a book you can page through.

You can keep editing after it's made — add or swap photos, drag to reorder, and choose a cover theme (white, cream, or dark).

5. Sharing it (no sign-up needed)

When a photobook is ready, everyone you've invited gets a notification. Opening the link in that email shows them the book right away.

All a viewer has to do is open the link.

Even family members who find phones difficult can just tap the link and start reading.

Common questions

Does it cost anything?: No. Every feature is free.
Is there a limit on how many photos I can add?: No.
Do viewers need to sign up?: No. They open the link and the book is there.
Can family who aren't comfortable with phones still see it?: Yes. Tapping the link opens the photobook directly. There's no app to find and no password to type.
Could strangers see our photos?: No. Only the family you invite can see them, and nothing appears in search engines.
Can I add videos too?: Yes. They work the same way as photos and can go in a photobook.
What devices does it work on?: Any browser on a computer, phone, or tablet. There's no app to install.
Can I put it on my phone's home screen?: Yes. Use your browser's "Add to Home Screen" and it opens like an app.
